The Aged Care Royal Commission has just announced it will be holding a public forum in Bendigo on 5 March 2019. Commissioner Lynelle Briggs AO will attend. See here for more information on registering what to do if you wish to make a statement.
The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety was established by the Federal Government in response to growing concerns about the quality of aged care in Australia. Its purpose is to explore issues about the care provided in residential settings, as well as someone’s home, and young people with disabilities living in residential aged care.
Hearings for the Royal Commission commenced on 11th February 2018. You can watch the Commission in action through its live broadcast and view recordings of previous public hearings. You can also read transcripts of witnesses. The Royal Commission has published details of hearings to assist parties, witnesses and members of the public.
Ian Yates, CEO of COTA Australia spoke at length on reforms needed to improve quality of care in aged care on the first day of hearings. COTA Victoria held an information session on the Royal Commission on 8th February that was livestreamed on COTA’s facebook
