Is anyone else cold? I think I started last month’s newsletter with a similar question. As I type this, I watch the wind and rain (or is it hail?) lash my window and I pause, once again, to reflect on how lucky I am to have a roof over my head and the resources to turn on my heating. Not everyone is so lucky. Housing insecurity and the rising cost of living are both affecting our communities, with a greater impact on those who live on a pension. If you’re struggling, please reach out to us – we may be able to help.
Despite the cold weather, this time of year is jam-packed with activity. We recently held forums in Morwell and Bendigo to focus on the impact of the mental health reforms for older Victorians. If you missed the forums and want to know more, keep an eye out for the video recordings, which will go up on our website soon. For the first time in a long time, we gathered with our volunteers to celebrate the work they do for COTA Victoria. We’ve also been so happy to see many providers returning to run Living Longer Living Stronger classes with older Victorians. Looking ahead, World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is on 15 June – read on to see what we’re doing to mark this very important annual event.
Grab a warm blanket, make yourself a hot cuppa and enjoy what the team has for you today. And remember, you can always invite others to read and subscribe to keep up with all the latest from COTA Victoria.
