COTA Victoria unravels Mental Health System Reforms at Morwell event

With the final report of the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System, tabled on 2nd March 2021, Council on the Ageing (COTA) Victoria will be hosting a forum in Morwell to unravel the Royal Commission’s recommendations and the impact they will have on people aged 50 plus.

The report outlined the changes to create a future mental health and wellbeing system which provides holistic treatment, care and support for all Victorians.

The COTA Victoria forum will explore the recommendations driving the reforms and will be an opportunity for participants to learn more about the services and programs that will be available as the reforms are implemented.

There will be a suite of service system experts, consumers and carers, as well as an opportunity to explore some of the issues with other people from the local community.

According to Tina Hogarth-Clarke, CEO COTA Victoria, the full-day forum will be invaluable for Victorians aged 50+ who are users of mental health services and support programs or are carers of somebody with mental health challenges.

“The report, in all its detail, may appear overwhelming and complex so we are determined to unpack the contents and present it to participants in a digestible format,” Ms Hogarth-Clarke said.

“We want to arm the participants with all the resources needed so they can move forward with their mental health plans for their loved ones or themselves.

“This forum will also give participants an opportunity to learn about locally-based services which are available to assist now.”
