Finding your way to aged care services

Aged care services in Australia have changed considerably in recent years. Whilst the range of services available continues to expand, many people are feeling very confused about what’s available and how to best access what they need.

COTA Victoria is part of a national trial to support people new to the aged care system. The trial program is called Aged Care Navigators, and it provides one-to-one information and support over the phone or face-to-face.

Our aged care navigation team can help you or your family to:

  • understand the types of care available
  • register for My Aged Care
  • learn about the assessment process
  • choose a provider
  • negotiate a service agreement
  • understand your rights.

This service is particularly helpful for anyone who does not have access to the internet. We can provide printed booklets and other materials to help.

We are also operating two locally-based aged care navigation programs at Pakenham and Springvale. Residents in these areas are able to attend community presentations and information sessions about aged care services, as well as receiving one-to-one assistance.

The Aged Care Navigators team can be contacted via our information line on 1300 050 090.

COTA Victoria will be hosting a special free information session on aged care fees and charges on Monday 2 December. Register online or phone (03) 9655 2100.
