FriendLine Call Taker Volunteer Position

Are you friendly and enjoy having a chat? Can you spare a few hours a week to help people experiencing loneliness or social isolation? We need you!

We are recruiting volunteers for our FriendLine service; a free phone service for those experiencing loneliness or social isolation. FriendLine is a national support service ready for a cuppa and a conversation. The support line is open every day with local volunteers ready to chat about what’s on the TV, local news, the weather – anything!

Friends For Good is a volunteer-driven, not-for-profit organisation which aims to free Australians from loneliness. We call loneliness the hidden suffering of the modern age. Loneliness does not discriminate. It is widespread and equally affects people of all ages and from all walks of life in our communities, in the city and in the bush. Loneliness has been linked to a range of physical and mental health concerns.

FriendLine is for anyone who needs to reconnect or just wants a chat. All conversations with FriendLine are anonymous and our friendly volunteers are ready for a yarn and to share a story or two. Just talking to our wonderful volunteers for a short time helps our callers feel less lonely and makes it easier for them to cope. Note: this is not a crisis intervention or counselling service. Our volunteers don’t need any special qualifications, just an interest in talking to a broad range of people and a desire to help people feel more connected.
