Mentors needed to help people aged 50+

Mentors needed to help people aged 50+ preview image

COTA Victoria’s Working Together projects support people aged 50+ along their training and employment pathway. We will match volunteer mentors with people returning to the workforce or wanting to re-train for a more sustainable job. The projects are running across the North and Western suburbs of Melbourne and in Greater Bendigo.

Come on, be a mentor and change-maker today!

We’re looking for mentors with a range of professional work and life skills who are willing to volunteer to support people on their employment journey. Mentoring sessions will run over six months and can be held at a place and time suitable for both mentor and mentee. We match mentors and mentees carefully, using a fun professional speed networking event.

The 20 mentees who have joined the program earlier this year have been very grateful for the support received from their mentors:

‘I feel like I hit the jackpot with my mentor – she is incredibly supportive.’ Beth, 58

‘Since having a mentor… I feel like a kid in the lolly shop: all I see now are opportunities.’ Leah, 62

Express your interest in joining the program as a mentor or mentee by visiting our webpage on Employment Support.

We are keen to promote this mentoring opportunity in your community, so please spread the word.  If you’d like to offer support to a mentor or would like to know more, contact us via email at jgoodman@cotavic.org.au or via phone at 03 9655 2119

Our marvellous mentors say:

‘I learnt so much in the [mentor] training, I couldn’t narrow it down to just one thing that I liked!’ Laia, 58

‘I was concerned I wouldn’t have enough knowledge to be a mentor, but today’s session helped me consolidate my lived experiences, grow in confidence and know there is a mentor tribe of diversity and experience that will support me. I feel excited about the next steps.’ Ann, 60

‘I am really impressed with the amount of experience of all the mentors on the program and how we can leverage this experience as a group to improve outcomes for mentees.’ Marija, 65

‘Thanks again for setting us this program – I am confident my mentee and I will learn a lot from each other over the next six months.’ Linh, 53
