Share your story about ageing in Victoria

As we re-emerge into the community after two years of COVID, COTA Victoria is creating a story library to showcase the older people’s diverse experiences. And we want to hear from you!

So … how are you? What brings you joy as you reconnect with people – whether cautiously or with great gusto? What are you still missing or seeking, and what would help you get there? Are you volunteering, or supporting your family members with their responsibilities? Are you still struggling with what feels safe? What have you enjoyed about the summer?

We’re also keen to hear about this life stage for you and your family as you re-emerge into the community. Are you still working, retired or just doing a little bit, and how does this compare to what you thought it would be like? Do you have a sense of purpose that helps drive your day, or are you seeking one? How are you going with the increased reliance on computers, phones and emails – has it meant you or someone you know has been left out of being kept up to date or even accessing venues?

How to share your story or someone else’s

If you want to share your story, in about 500 words (or one A4 page) tell us a little bit about yourself, perhaps using some of the questions above as a prompt. Please include your name, address, and contact details.

After we receive your story, we will contact you to verify your story, fill in any gaps, and ask you to sign a permission form allowing us to use the story.

If you know someone else with an interesting story to share, but who would be more comfortable sharing their story in conversation, please ask them if you can send us their contact details and a brief overview. We will call them to have a chat and hear their story. Please make sure you have their permission before sharing their contact details with us.

To submit your story, or tell us about someone else with a story, please contact our story coordinator, Diane, via email: communications@cotavic.org.au

How we’ll use the stories

We want to build library of stories with your knowledge and wisdom. These stories may be used in media, promotions, case studies and COTA Connects articles. But please note that while we believe every person has a story worth sharing, we may not have opportunities to directly use every story we receive.
