Update (23 March 2023): A second round of the $250 Power Saving Bonus has been announced. Learn more here.
Original story (13 February 2021): The $250 Power Saving Bonus is a once-off payment available to Victorian households with at least one concession cardholder in residence. All pension types will be eligible – age pension, disability support pension, carer payment and single parenting payment.
The payments will be available from 1 February 2021 to 31 January 2022 and payments will be limited to one per eligible household. There is plenty of time to claim your bonus.
People wishing to claim the bonus will need to head to the Victorian Energy Compare website. This website provides Victorian consumers with information about how to source the best price for their electricity or gas supply. You will need a copy of a recent power or gas bill. Once you have completed a simple comparison exercise, you will be able to provide your details and receive the $250 bonus.
The bonus will be paid into your nominated bank account within two to three weeks via electronic funds transfer.
If you are unable to complete the exercise online, you can contact Victorian Energy Compare on 1800 00 08 32 to ask for help.
COTA Victoria and several other community agencies will soon be providing telephone and/or face-to-face help to people who wish to claim the bonus. Please keep an eye on our website and newsletter for further information.
