Spring is well and truly here, and in true Victorian fashion we’re regularly having all seasons in one day. I hope you’re emerging from lockdown and have caught up with loved ones, or made plans to.

Welcome to the August edition of COTA Connects. As I write, we are once again eagerly awaiting an announcement about whether lockdown restrictions will continue or be eased. Victorians are used to this by now, but it’s still a tough way to live, and my wish for our readers is that you are ok.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of many organisations, especially in the not-for-profit sector. COTA Victoria couldn’t have survived 70 years – and indeed, would not have even started – if it weren’t for dedicated people volunteering their time and skills to advocate on behalf of older Victorians.

Happy birthday to us! The festival of 70 is about to start. COTA Victoria is turning 70 on 30 April, and we want to celebrate all things 70. Seventy years is a big milestone for an organisation - we must be doing something right to have survived this long!

What a year it has been. I’m sure many of you, like me, are looking forward to a fresh start in 2021. After all we have learned this year, we will be better equipped to deal with the ongoing effects of the pandemic that will be around for a while longer yet.
